Disclaimer: I love Gamers. Hardcore Gamers, Casual Gamers, people who only game once in awhile. I have friends on every end of the spectrum. I consider myself to be a Casual Gamer.

That being said,

We watched a video in my training class at my new job today. It was a group of people holding an in-game funeral for a player that had passed away. They posted about it in the forums, explaining what they were planning to do and that they planned to record it for the player's family as well, so please don't interfere. (Heads up; don't ever do that. Ever. See above.) So another group of people from an opposing faction decided to take this opportunity to crash the funeral and kill all the characters present. None of which were wearing gear, because funeral.

The video itself I could handle. Because again, Gamers are assholes. I wasn't really surprised, even when they bragged about what they'd done and agreed that they were dicks.

What I couldn't handle was the rest of the room laughing at it.

I'll admit it; the video immediately made me think of losing [personal profile] psyco_chick32. And that's what set me off about it. Because if that had been me, trying to grieve for a friend, and not only were people being disrespectful, but laughing about it?

I spent my lunch in headphones, listening to music and taking a walk around the building to try and calm down. And my last break. And I'm still upset about it. Calming down, but definitely Not Okay.

It was a very sudden, painful reminder that Gamers are assholes. And I work with Gamers.

And now I find myself suddenly wondering if I'm cut out for working with assholes.
